The Small Business Administration (SBA) sets aside at least three percent of prime federal contracts and subcontracts for Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBzones). For a business to be certified as HUB zoned the principal office must be located in a HUBzone as indicated by the SBA. Other requirements are:
- At a minimum thirty-five percent of the company’s employees must live in a HUBZone.
- The company must be a small business as specified by the SBA.
- 51% of the company must be owned and controlled by a U.S. citizen, Indian Tribe, Native Hawaiian Organization, Community Development Corporation, Alaskan Native Corporation, or an Agricultural Cooperative.
