GSA FAS Newly Appointed Commissioner

General Services Administration (GSA), Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) has a newly appointed Commissioner.  As the Technology Transformation Service (TTS) has become part of FAS Alan Thomas has been appointed as the current Commissioner of FAS replacing Tom Sharpe.  Tom Sharpe and Deputy Commissioner, Kevin Youel Page both resigned on June 24 of this year.

Mr. Thomas was sworn in on June 26, 2017.  He led a technology company in establishing access to the federal market through IT schedule 70, he is a former program analyst in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics at the U.S. Department of Defense.  He is also a former Department of the Army management analyst.

By reading what GSA’s Acting Administrator, Tim Horne says it sounds like GSA is trying to get back to a customer based approach.  Here is what he had to say:

“Alan’s background in both industry and government gives him a unique and valuable perspective on GSA”.  He went on to say, “Alan’s addition to our leadership team demonstrates our commitment to remaining an organization that attracts the best talent in service to the nation.  I am excited to work with him as he implements his vision for continuing our work to modernize and streamline government”.
