FAR Updates Every Contractor Needs

FAR Updates Every Contractor Needs

The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) overhaul continues to move forward. On June 23, 2026, the Government published four additional proposed rule packages in the Federal Register as part of the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul initiative. These proposed changes are open for public comment through July 23, 2026. The latest rules include updates to dozens of FAR parts that impact how federal agencies buy products and services and how contractors compete for and perform government contracts.

The newly released proposed rules include:

FAR Case 2026-001
Parts 1, 2, 4, 33, 39, 40, 52, and 53

FAR Case 2026-002
Parts 6, 7, 10, 18, 26, 37, 41, and 52

FAR Case 2026-005
Parts 5, 24, 29, and 52

FAR Case 2026-007
Parts 3, 49, and 52

Together, these proposed rules address many of the core policies that govern federal acquisitions, including acquisition planning, competition, market research, contract administration, information technology, commercial services, ethics, protests, contract termination, solicitation provisions, and contract clauses.

According to the Government, public feedback received during Phase 1 of the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul played an important role in shaping these proposed rules. Comments submitted on the initial model deviations were reviewed and incorporated where appropriate, resulting in revisions before publication in the Federal Register. This demonstrates that stakeholder input is helping refine the modernization effort before the rules become final.

Although these rules are still proposed and are not yet final, they provide valuable insight into the direction of future federal procurement policy.

Government contractors should begin reviewing the proposed changes now to:

  • Understand how future solicitations may be affected.
  • Identify potential impacts on internal policies and compliance procedures.
  • Evaluate changes to contract clauses and solicitation requirements.
  • Submit comments if a proposed rule could significantly affect their business operations.

Companies that stay informed during the rulemaking process are better positioned to prepare for implementation once the final regulations are issued.

The public comment period closes on July 23, 2026. After reviewing public feedback, the FAR Council may revise the proposed rules before issuing final regulations. Click here for the FAR rules that are open for public comment.

Now is an excellent time for contractors to review these proposed changes and determine how they may affect future contracting opportunities.
