Fed Goals For WOSB Contracts

Did you know Women’s History Month cultivated in 1978 by a school district in California? As the idea expanded former President, Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8 as National Women’s Week. Congress passed a resolution the following year proclaiming it a national celebration. In 1987 the celebration was later expanded to a full month.

If you like that information here is another way that women are recognized. The federal government has a goal each year to award at least 5% of contracts to Woman Owned Small Businesses (WOSB). Those contracts vary for products and services. To qualify as a WOSB you must be a U.S. citizen, 51% of the company must be owned by a woman, and a recognized as a small business per SBA regulations. To certify as a WOSB vendors can go to Small Business Administration.
